Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

DNEG delivered 430 shots across 10 key sequences for ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ and were tasked with creating a wide variety of digital worlds and creatures that the hero characters travel to and interact with whilst on their epic adventure.

The majority of our VFX team’s work took place in four main story locations, all of which were either fully digital or heavily augmented and extended. These locations included the underground kingdom of the Deserter people, Black Manta’s secret lair and surrounding volcanic island jungle, and the ice shelves of Antarctica.

We also built a range of wild creatures that inhabit these worlds, such as Topo the octopus, the ten-legged Jajus, giant grasshoppers, and a variety of other jungle-dwelling creatures.

A large amount of FX simulation work was also provided, including earth and sand interaction during the Jaju chase, the toppling of an enormous statue, Antarctic ocean sims and ice shelf destruction, as well as extensive battle damage resulting in the complete destruction of the Manta lair environment.
