The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

As one of the lead VFX partners, DNEG contributed to three episodes of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, working across many of the series’ key sequences.

We were proud to serve as the sole VFX partner for the climactic battle sequence in Episode 6 of the show. As well as sweeping set extensions, our VFX team augmented the action in the battle scene with extensive digital character builds, complete with cloth, muscle, and hair simulations, to extend the small number of practically shot riders and live-action Orcs to armies of hundreds - all of which hold up one-to-one with their live-action counterparts.

Additional work for our DNEG team included crowd simulation for several wide shots, motion capture and hand animation for close-up hand-to-hand combat, and extensively revised practical action and set dressing for a 2500 frame shot including full CG replacements for the live-action Orcs.
