Doctor Who: Flux

Doctor Who has always been a show of grand ambition and season 13 was no exception. DNEG was proud to deliver 306 VFX shots and 179 assets over a 10 month delivery period for this iconic series.
Traditionally, Doctor Who has been a ‘creature of the week’ show, requiring one-off character and environment builds for individual episodes. 

This series was unusual as it saw a six episode story arc with a number of recurring characters and locations. The action took place across the entire universe, in different time zones (past, present and future), and with multiple alien threats - so it still required many creature, vehicle and environment builds, as well as a lot of FX disintegration and destruction.  

Serving as the lead vendor with support from other contributors Zodiak, freelance artist Ben Pickles, and BBC Wales, DNEG was tasked with massively increasing the scale of the storytelling and world-building for this series. This required attention across the whole range of disciplines: including full CG shots, greenscreen work, DMP, set extension, characters and crowds, creature, vehicle and environment builds, as well as a huge number and variety of FX simulations.
